How do Scribble contact lists work?

A list is a saved set of people that an automation points at, so a rule watches a group rather than individuals. Lists are live: somebody added to a list tomorrow is watched from tomorrow, with no edit to the rule. Campaigns cannot use lists yet — the campaign wizard takes an upload, a paste or typed rows.

  1. Open Lists

Contacts → Lists → New list.

  2. Name it after who is on it, not what you are sending

Staff, Clients, VIPs, Partners. A list called Holiday cards 2026 is useless in March.

  3. Choose the kind

Fixed list is the only kind that is built. It is a set of people you chose, and it changes when you change it.

  4. Add the people

From the contacts table, or as part of an import.

You’ll know it worked when The list shows a member count.

#What lists are good for today

  • Automations follow them. A birthday rule pointed at Staff picks up a new starter the day they land on the list.
  • Scoping a rule. Different lists with different messages and designs is how you send staff and clients different birthday cards.
  • Seeing overlap. Two rules pointed at two lists that share people will write to those people twice. Visible membership makes that obvious before it happens.
