How do I send handwritten cards from Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini?

That one URL is the whole configuration. There is no key to generate, nothing to install, and nothing to run on your own machine — you sign in to Scribble in a browser window the first time, tick what the assistant may do, and that is it.

#What is MCP?

The Model Context Protocol is an open standard for letting an AI assistant use an outside service. Anthropic published it, and OpenAI, Google and Microsoft have all adopted it, which means one connection works across the assistants your team already uses rather than needing a separate plugin for each.

For you it means the assistant can do things in Scribble, not just talk about them: read your address book, check your credits, and put a card in the post.

#Set it up

1. Add the connector in your assistant

   Find the connectors or apps setting, choose to add a custom one, and paste https://scribblecards.com/api/mcp. The exact clicks differ per platform — see Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini.

2. Sign in to Scribble

   A Scribble window opens. Sign in the way you normally do. If you are already signed in it skips straight to the next step.

3. Choose what the assistant may do

   You will see four permissions, each with a tick box. Untick anything you do not want. If you leave Send handwritten cards off, the assistant can help you draft and look things up but cannot post anything.

   Choose the space this assistant should use. Just me is private; shared spaces have their own contacts, designs and credit balance. The connection stays with the space you approve, even when you switch spaces in the app.

   You’ll know it worked when Your assistant reports the connector as connected, and the Scribble tools appear in its tool list.

4. Try it

   Ask: "Using Scribble, how many card credits do I have?" A working connection answers with a number.

#You see the card, not a description of it

Your assistant can show you a picture of the inside of the card, as the pen will write it. The handwriting in that picture is not a font pretending to be handwriting — it is drawn from the same pen strokes the machine follows, at the size and in the place the machine will put them, in the hand you chose. The printed front comes back as a link to the artwork rather than as a second picture, because that one already exists on our site.

Ask for a preview before sending, using check_card_before_sending. Preparing a batch also returns two sample card previews. Review the front, message, recipient and cost before telling your assistant to send.

Each preview includes a link you can open if your assistant does not display the image. The link works for 30 days. Anyone you share it with can see the card and its message.

Two things about it are worth knowing. The letters are varied for every card, so the card that arrives is in that handwriting but is not that exact drawing. And anything your design writes on every card — a logo line, a standing sign-off — is in the picture too, because it will be on the paper.

#Every card has a printed front

Every card has a printed front. Your assistant can choose from your organization's saved designs and the full public collection. Ask to see the cards for an occasion, then choose the one you want to send.

Choose a card from the collection without saving it first. It is added to this space's Designs when used. If no design is specified, the send uses your most recent saved design, so ask to see the front before approving.

The collection includes cards for personal occasions and for work. Business suitability is a way to narrow the choice, and birthday cards appear together whatever the recipient. Your organization's uploaded designs stay private to your organization.

Cards sent through an assistant use Scribble's shared handwriting and fitting pipeline. Any standing text in your saved design, such as a sign-off, is included in the preview.

#Review before sending

Sending tools are marked as actions that spend credits. Your assistant controls when it asks for confirmation; Scribble does not collect a separate approval for each single card. Keep send confirmations on and review the exact address, card, message and cost. A connection without Send handwritten cards cannot send.

#Which assistants work

Anything that speaks Streamable HTTP MCP works. The server implements protocol revisions 2025-03-26 through 2026-07-28, so an older client and a brand-new one both connect to the same URL.

#What it costs

Nothing to connect. Cards cost the same through an assistant as they do anywhere else — one credit each, at your volume rate. Reading contacts, checking credits and looking up a card are all free.
