What can an AI assistant do in my Scribble account?

The tools can look up contacts, choose cards, preview handwriting, send one card or prepare a mailing, and set up recurring rules. Sending requires permission and uses credits from the connected space. Keep your assistant’s confirmation controls on and review any send or rule activation before approving.

#The four permissions

You choose these when you connect, and you can reconnect at any time to change them. An assistant is only offered the tools its permissions cover — the rest are not in its list at all, so it cannot try and fail.

#Tools that only read

get_scribble_account: Which organization the connection belongs to, the credit balance, and what was granted. This is the connection test.
get_credit_balance: How many cards can still be sent, excluding credits already promised to scheduled campaigns.
list_handwriting_styles: The 30 current handwriting styles, grouped by appearance, with written samples to help you choose. Each sample includes a link and a picture. Ask for a particular style or for your own words to be written in it. Older saved styles remain supported; Wildcard is a legacy category.
list_card_designs: Your organization's saved designs and every active card in the public collection, with occasion and recipient tags and a link to see the front. A collection card is added to your Designs the first time you send it. Uploaded designs remain private to your organization. An assistant can help make artwork, but you upload the file yourself at Designs, at 1276 × 1654 pixels.
find_contacts: Searches your address book by name, email or company, and says who is missing a mailing address.
list_sent_cards: Cards you have sent, newest first, filterable by status.
get_card_status: One card in detail: every production step and the arrival window. It stops at mailed — we do not buy delivery tracking, so handed to the carrier is the last thing anyone can honestly tell you.
check_card_before_sending: A dry run that shows you the card. Returns a picture of the inside in the real handwriting, a web address for that same picture, a link to the printed front, and every problem that would stop the send — a bad state code, a message too long, an unfilled merge field, an empty balance. Sends nothing and spends nothing.
list_contact_lists: The lists in your account, with how many people are on each. A list is what a batch or a rule is aimed at.
list_recurring_card_rules: Your rules, whether each is on, and — the number that matters — how many contacts each can actually act on.
search_scribble_docs: Searches these pages, so the assistant answers questions about pricing and turnaround from what is actually written here rather than from a guess.

#Tools that change something

save_contacts: Adds up to 500 people to the address book at once, or updates them if they are already there. Reports how many can actually be posted to, how many are missing a birthday, and who is on the do-not-mail list. Cannot delete anybody.
prepare_card_batch: Builds a run of up to 1,000 cards from a list and one message with merge fields. Sends nothing and uses no credits — it fills in every card, checks every address, and hands back everything that is blocked, three of the merged messages in full, and two of them drawn as real cards in the handwriting the run will use. Each drawing comes with a link as well, so a proof can be forwarded to whoever signs the run off.
create_recurring_card_rule: Creates a birthday, work-anniversary or custom-date rule. Always saved switched OFF, with a count of how many contacts it can act on.
send_card — flagged irreversible: Writes and posts one card using one credit. Requires send permission. Request check_card_before_sending and review the preview before approving. The send result includes the order, arrival window and a preview where rendering succeeds. Confirmation prompts depend on your assistant's settings.
send_card_batch — flagged irreversible: Posts every ready card in a prepared batch, using one credit each. If the run is over your organization's approval threshold it is parked for an owner to sign off instead of going out.
activate_recurring_card_rule — flagged irreversible: Switches a rule on, so it starts sending by itself. Refused if the rule can match nobody. Switching a rule off is always allowed.
cancel_card — flagged irreversible: Stops a card and returns the credit, but only while it is still waiting for a machine. Once a pen is on the paper the answer is a plain no with the reason.

#Two deliberate pieces of friction

#The do-not-mail list is honored everywhere

Anyone on your do-not-mail list is refused before a card is made — by a single send, inside a batch, and by a recurring rule. Nothing is charged. The check sits where the card is made rather than in each route, so an assistant gets it whether or not it knows the list exists.

A single card and a batch are matched on the postal address, and on the email as well when the assistant has one. A recurring rule matches on the contact's email, because it is picking people out of your address book rather than being handed an address. So when you add somebody, add the email if you have it — it is the identifier that still matches after they move.

#Every card is a greeting card

There is no plain stock, so every card goes on a front — either one of your saved designs or a card from our card collection. list_card_designs returns both. An assistant that names neither gets your most recent saved design, and an account with nothing saved is pointed at the range rather than refused.

Choosing a card from the collection saves it in your Designs, just as Start from our designs does in the app. The whole active collection is available, including cards for work and family. For a client mailing, ask your assistant to find business-appropriate designs and check the card before sending.

Whatever your design writes on every card — a standing line, a sign-off — is written on a card an assistant sends too, and appears in the picture it shows you. The app, the API, an automation and an assistant all build the card with the same code, so the door it came through changes nothing about what is on the paper.

#What an assistant still cannot do

Design a card. That is a visual job and belongs on a canvas.
Approve a big run. If your organization requires sign-off above a card count, an assistant's batch waits for a person exactly like anyone else's.
Register a webhook, mint an API key, or change your default handwriting or return address.
Delete a contact, a list or a rule.
Manage your team.

#Duplicate protection

Repeating the same card request within 24 hours returns its earlier result instead of sending again. The check includes the full address, message, handwriting, design, arrival date and reference. To deliberately send another copy, use a different reference. For a send recorded by the earlier retry check, Scribble may ask you to review the original order before continuing.
